A homeless wanderer, Rimas Šileikis, visits Gabrielė, the lady of the manor where he once

worked as a gardener many years ago. Over lunch, he tells her about his estranged brother,

Stasys, and finally resolves to pay him a visit. But upon returning to his native village, Rimas

finds something very different from what he expected. Rich in elements of magical realism,

Tabasco reflects the director’s exploration of intergenerational collective trauma and the crisis of

provincial life in post-Soviet Lithuania.

Andrius Žemaitis

Andrius Žemaitis studied graphic and industrial design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 2010,

he co-founded the audiovisual duo BrainMonk, with which he recorded and released 24

experimental free improvisation albums. In 2021, Žemaitis released his first film, Alizava, which

won the Scanorama Award for Best Lithuanian Short Film. The film also received a prize at the

Pesaro Film Festival in Italy and a special mention at the Brive Festival in France, and went on

to screen at more than 13 international film festivals.
